At Gobena, our passion lies in empowering everyone to Go Make a Difference. One way to achieve this is by drinking GREAT coffee for a GREAT cause. Our coffee beans are purchased fresh and in season directly from the farmer. For instance, when our Colombian partner harvests their coffee and completes the drying process, we import the dried green coffee beans as soon as possible. Upon the beans' arrival, we small batch roast them. When we say fresh, we truly mean fresh.

We believe that beans should be roasted to bring out their original flavor. Each bean possesses distinct flavor notes and requires specific roast temperatures and times. Roasting in small batches allows us to reach the full potential of each bean. Is the coffee you're currently drinking over-roasted? Chances are, it is. Most roasters tend to over-roast due to the use of old, out-of-season beans, resulting in a burnt taste.

Our coffee is roasted on a Joper Roaster, manufactured in Canelas, Portugal. Joper has been producing roasters since 1962, proudly combining the genuine quality of the European Old World with the latest technology. Joper symbolizes performance, quality, and value, giving roasters like Gobena a competitive edge. All of our coffee is roasted and packed on the same day.

100% of Gobena's profit is dedicated to helping orphaned and vulnerable children worldwide. We partner with Lifesong for Orphans to work with at-risk children and young adults.

In the summer of 2007, in Ethiopia, Gobena, an elderly farmer, found and rescued an abandoned baby girl near his home. For over four weeks, Gobena and his wife provided the best care they could, but soon realized the child needed more. They carried her 5 miles to town, where she was given food and shelter. This baby girl, named Eva, was adopted by a loving family from Illinois. This act of love inspired the adoptive family to start Gobena Coffee, with 100% of the net profits going to Lifesong for Orphans.

It is Fair Trade USA Certified, 100% Arabica Coffee, sourced from the wonderful Asobagri Cooperative in Guatemala, created by a group of small family farmers. This full-bodied coffee has a touch of sweetness.
